Malecón Cancún, Last of the Projects
Alter fifteen years since it was first announced, Fonatur has begun the
commercialization of twenty percent of the polygon comprising the
Malecón Cancún project. With this, the three principal Cancun projects
(Puerto Cancún, Costa Cancún and Malecón Cancún) are all finally on their
way to becoming realities.
The area
in offer has land use defined as well as being
certified as conforming to the parameters of
the master plan for Cancun Super Block 4-
b. This project will help diversify the area's
business profile from tourism to business and
services. It is ambitious but feasible because
it is located in Mexico's zone of highest gross
domestic production. It will form a modern
center aimed at providing residential and hotel
facilities for visitors who come here for motives
other than tourism. The project will also include
office buildings for businesses seeking to leave
Mexico City and will thus help reduce the area's
dependence on tourism
Malecón Cancun will take six to eight years to complete, but work will begin in the middle of 2006.
